Green Design Furniture Company (GDF) was founded in 1993 to pioneer the application of a patented method of furniture design and construction invented by Douglas Green. With this method, legacy quality, solid wood furniture designs are created without fasteners or glues to create stronger, more durable products, deliver significant efficiency improvements to the manufacturer while, at the same time, providing a new model of customer-friendly delivery, installation and service. In its 26 year history, Green Design Furniture built the model for a national brand by producing leading-edge contemporary-classic furniture designs that embodied traditional values of authenticity and integrity in spirit and form.
Sustainability and New Process Innovation: Building a greener future will in large part be determined by adopting ways to make products that last longer and require less energy and materials to produce and transport. Green Design's unique manufacturing process creates furniture of great durability and also presents the opportunity for gaining significant efficiencies in furniture production, distribution, delivery and installation. GDF's patented methodology introduced the concept of 'craftsman programming' that optimizes existing CNC technology. Green Design's workshop in Portland Maine was a low-tech model of how this approach would express itself in a much larger and more advanced manufacturing facility.
